Tips for managing crises

When dealing with a crisis, it is important to have a plan and be willing to follow through with it. The following are some tips for managing crises:

    Remain as calm as possible.
    Slow down. Give space by not hovering over your relative or getting too close.
    Speak in a quiet, normal tone.
    Reduce distractions.
    Speak slowly and clearly, and use simple sentences.
    Invite your relative to sit down and talk about what is bothering them.
    Allow your relative to have space.
    Call 911 if you think this is an emergency.
