Questions to ask your health care team

It is important for you to encourage your relative to be involved in making decisions about the medication they are taking. Your relative is the one who is experiencing the symptoms of psychosis, and will know what helps to make them feel better or worse. Collaborating with the doctor to see what is working is essential, and helps your relative to feel more empowered when they are actively involved in their treatment plan.

Questions to ask the health care team about medications may include:

what are the benefits of taking the medication?
how long does it take to work?
will it interfere with work or school?
what are the side-effects or other drawbacks of taking the medication?
what can be done about the side-effects?
