Supporting your relative’s recovery

Recovery can be slow and gradual. It is important to know that your family member needs to recover at their own pace.

The experience of recovering from an episode of psychosis can be very stressful. Your relative may be experiencing confused and suspicious thoughts, anxiety and other symptoms. The medications will help to reduce these symptoms but may take time to work. You will want to:

    keep realistic expectations
    choose your battles
encourage your relative to have a routine
    empathize (don’t argue)
continue to do enjoyable activities together.
