Supporting your relative in taking medications

There are several things you can do to support your relative in taking their medications as prescribed, including:

acknowledging the concerns they have about taking the medication
helping set up routines for taking medications (e.g., using a pill box organizer, placing medication by their toothbrush, setting an alarm or taking medication at the same time each day)
providing reminders of the benefits of taking the medication and the risks of not taking the medication
discussing any emergent concerns with the treatment team and encouraging your relative to do the same
learning the benefits and risks of taking the medications
understanding that it is usually difficult for people to accept that they need to take medication on a daily basis.
