1. Understanding psychosis

What is psychosis?

The word “psychosis” is used to describe a serious medical condition that affects the mind; specifically, it refers to when a person loses contact with reality. It includes a range of symptoms that alter the way a person acts, thinks, sees, hears or feels, and it makes it difficult for them to distinguish between what is real and what is not. Psychosis can lead to confused thinking, false beliefs, hallucinations, changes in feelings and changed behaviour. Like any other illness, it is important to remember that psychosis can be treated.
