Finding support

Helpful support

Support can come from a variety of sources, such as:

    neighbours
    other family members
    colleagues and managers
    teachers
    therapists
    case workers
    agencies
    religious or faith communities

    cultural leaders
    self-help organizations
    support groups
    professionals
friends who are supportive, non-judgmental and good listeners

Having a supportive network of understanding and non-judgmental peers is often an important coping resource for families (O’Grady, 2005).
