Treatment for substance use problems

Treatment for substance use problems comes in many forms, such as:

group counselling session
    counselling
individual and group therapy (including family therapy)
    education
    peer support
mutual aid groups (Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous)
    medication.

Addiction treatment services begin by working with individuals and supporting them to set a personal goal for treatment.

Each individual has a different perspective on what recovery means to them. The key goals of treatment are:

    reducing or stopping substance use
    reducing the risk of relapse
improving work life, relationships and overall functioning.

Many addiction programs use a harm reduction approach.
