Access to care

Stats

One third of Canadians aged 15 or older who report having a mental health care need in the past year say that their needs were not fully met (Pearson et al., 2013).

Only two in five Canadians (41 per cent) gave an A or B grade when asked about access to mental health care services (CMA, 2013). But, this is an increase from 34 per cent in 2012.

Wait times for counselling and therapy can be long, especially for children and youth. In Ontario, it is common to have wait times of six months to one year (CMHO, 2016; Office of the Auditor General of Ontario, 2016).
