First episode psychosis refers to the first time someone experiences symptoms of psychosis. A person experiencing a first episode of psychosis may not understand what is happening, and may feel confused and frightened. A first episode of psychosis is distressing, particularly because it is an unfamiliar experience for both the person experiencing the symptoms and their family.
